Hope and Belonging

There are moments when you realize how important it is to be understood and to know that there is somewhere that you truly belong. I came across this "Nothing to Lose" video by billy talent and it seems to capture so well how disfiguring deep loneliness can be.

All of our pursuits in life are motivated by something. I want my journey through the tensions of perplexity and understanding to ultimately help other people. What if we developed institutions and social structures that actually improve the lives of our families, friends, co-workers and the global family we are increasingly woven into? Improving organizational ingenuity through effective problem solving - social ingenuity and invention - can change how we live and think.

Though it is naive, I wish that our schools were so good at nurturing great relationships in brilliantly creative spaces that there wouldn't be any students like the guy in the video. As jaded and sophisticated as we are, there is a part of all of us what wishes it could be that way.

Even if we can't go the whole distance, I believe that a caring and committed application of the best of our hearts and minds can open up exciting new possibilities.
