Following your peculiar instincts

Henry (Gizmo) Williams career was characterized by Edmonton executives trying to turn him into a reciever. He never really took off in that role. But special teams were a different story. He became famous for his captivating punt-returns. During his career, he had 26 punt-return touchdowns.

The CFL recently inducted him into the Hall of Fame. A National Post writer said that his best fit was on special teams where "return routes can be overruled by individual instincts." Gizmo excelled when his highly proficient - and seemingly instantaneous - ability to improvise athletically found a space to operate.

Despite executive and coaching pressure to be a receiver, that wasn't his best game. Thankfully he found a way to follow his own best instincts and it led to a WOW career. That flip after scoring a touchdown was always a great moment, too.
